Basic Mach3 Setup

Having installed Mach3, the Mach3 license and the XML controller profile we are now ready to look at the basic setup of Mach3. This will involve: ensuring the X, Y and Z axis move in the correct direction relative to the co-ordinates in Mach3 (ensuring positive movement of the machine is positive movement of the co-ordinates in Mach3).

To understand the orientation of the machine please watch this video. Generally as you stand in front of your machine the X axis moves left to right, the Y axis move towards and away from you and the Z axis moves up and down.

To move these use the keyboard directional arrows (this is known as manual jogging) - left and right for X axis, up and down for the Y axis and page up and page down for the Z axis. For the moment it does not matter if the keys do not move the machine in the correct direction, we will set these up later.

Check axis move in the correct direction relating to the on screen Mach3 co-ordinates:

X Axis Press either the left or right directional arrow on the keyboard so that the X axis moves to the right. As you are doing this ensure the on screen Mach3 co-ordinates for the Z axis are increasing. If when you jog the machine to the right the co-ordinates go down then you need to follow the instructions to reverse this.

Y Axis Press the up or down directional arrow on the keyboard so the Y axis moves away from you. This should result in the on screen Mach3 co-ordinates for the Y axis increasing. If when you jog the machine upwards the co-ordinates go down then you need to follow the instructions to reverse this.

Z Axis Press the page up or page down keys on the keyboard so the Z axis moves upwards. This should result in the on screen Mach3 co-ordinates for the Z axis increasing. If when you jog the machine upwards the co-ordinates go down then you need to follow the instructions to reverse this.
